I recommend that you clear my recipes with your vet before feeding them to your own Fur Babe, and that you always provide your pups with a varied diet. I make several different recipes for my Fur Babe every week, as well as supplementing his diet with a high quality dry dog food.
I have never made a recipe that North does not devour. I began feeding him homemade foodie meals at two months old. I will never share one with you that is not a hit in his book.
16oz Dry Navy Beans - GMO free if possible
2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
2 - 6oz. Cans Wild Caught Salmon
2 c. Quinoa - GMO free if possible
1 bag Frozen Green Peas - Organic if possible
Soak the navy beans in a sealed container - overnight - in enough water to cover them well with a couple of inches to spare.
The next day, transfer the beans and the water to a large pot and heat them over medium heat on the stove. Add the olive oil to the water and cook the beans, covered, stirring occasionally, for an hour.
Add cups of water periodically to keep the beans underwater and not sticking to the bottom of the pan.
When the beans are soft, add the quinoa, and more water, and continue cooking the mixture for another 15 minutes. Stir the beans and quinoa often, and add water as needed.
Remove the pot from the heat and add the bag of frozen peas. Stir the peas in well and let the mixture rest for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the canned salmon and the juices and allow the mixture to cool before refrigerating.
A serving can be given to your dog while warm - Not Too Hot - the rest can be stored, covered, in the fridge, for a few days.
My Fur Babe is still a large breed pup and finishes this amount of food in about three days. He also gets a serving of dry dog food in the mornings as a supplement.
