Twenty Songs…that always put me in a better mood.

Twenty Songs…that always put me in a better mood.

They may be annoying in general, but each one of these will help me to lift up my mood, even if it’s simply because they make me laugh…

1.     Wham-Wake Mw Up Before You Go Go. It was the pre-programed song on a keyboard that I owned as a kid. If you have never seen the video, it is hilarious.
2.     Katrina and the Waves-Walking on Sunshine. It always makes me remember the movie: The Secret of my Success.
3.     Right Said Fred-Sexy Bum. I went through a phase where I was forcing all of my friends to watch this video. Not only will it make you laugh your bum off, there is a content warning on this u-tube video.
4.     Sesame Street-Manah Manah. I always find myself singing this when I am stuck in traffic.
5.     Charles Durning-Dance a Little Sidestep. He is my favorite actor, and this is such a great performance. I hope this link stays good for a bit:
6.     Blur-Song Two. I remember buying the album when this song came out because I liked the song so much…This is the only one I like.
7.     Newsies-Seize the Day. A totally inspiring song from one of my favorite musicals.
8.     Groupelove-Chloe. This is my kids’ favorite. We like to sing along at the top of our lungs.
9.     The Greatest American Hero-Theme Song. I just love it…that’s all that I can say.
10. Hurts So Good-John Mellencamp. I remember the song from the movie footloose. It’s just a great song.
11. Hanging Around-Counting Crowes. I always want to dance to this song. I have a friend who consistently reminds me that it was her class song when she graduated.
12. You Make My Dreams Come True-Hall and Oates. I remember this song in the background of my early childhood; it also makes me want to dance, a lot.
13. Take on Me-A Ha. It’s my favorite song from the eighties…and the video is really cool!
14. Raise Your Glass-Pink. Awesome, rebellious, and joyful song.
15. Safety Dance-Men Without Hats. It is hard not to smile when I hear this song. I have discovered that it really annoys unhappy people when you sing it to them as well.
16. Birdhouse in Your Soul-They Might be Giants. The lyrics are supposedly nonsensical, but my heart understands every word.
17. Candlelinght-The Maccabeats. This is actually the preferred Christmas music in our house. When my kids were little they would skip around singing it.
18. The Outsiders-Needtobreathe. This is such a beautiful song. It makes my heart happy.
19. Goodbye Earl-The Dixie Chix. This is another one that I like to sing at the top of my lungs. He really did have to die.
20. Get Your Boggie Down-Al Jarreau. My mom used to play this song when I was a kid. Al is just outstanding!

20 Things…you learn after moving to Florida.

20 Things…you learn after moving to Florida.
1.There is a big difference between a roach and a palmetto bug. Real roaches are the guys from New York. They infest, they are spooky smart, they are dirty and nasty, and you have to work really hard to get rid of them. Palmetto bugs however, are big and creepy and dumb. You usually see them outside at night and they will fly right at your face. They don’t infest because they are native and they can’t survive in our AC temps. 2.Every public indoor place will always be frigid. Most of your friend’s houses will be as well. I take a sweater with me almost everywhere that I go, and if I forget to I regret it. 3.Outside of weather emergencies, weathermen are superfluous. In the rainy season, which is most of the time, there is an eighty percent chance of rain, every single day. The weather man has no idea what time it will rain, how hard, or for how long, and there is no way for him to predict it. You just have to go out there with your fingers cr…

The Power Of Willful Ignorance

I watched a woman say these words in a speech a few moments ago and nothing could be more true...willful ignorance is insanely powerful. Willful ignorance is the reason that good German people allowed their neighbors to be dragged off by the Nazis in the middle of the night. It is the reason that American people choose to believe our homeless are lazy and irresponsible instead of facing the reality that their situations have arisen because of widespread mental illness and cooperate greed. It is the reason that you will pick up a steak on your way home from work tonight, not bothering to find out where it came from, because you just don’t want to know. The truth is too disgusting.
I have gone on about the meat industry quite a bit and my goal here is not to do that. I love to eat meat, I will state that again, but the example that comes from our consumption of factory meat is so powerful when it comes to explaining willful ignorance that I want to use it. Out of ALL of the many, many,…
